WEST
COUNTRY AND WALES TOUR
(8 DAYS /7 NIGHTS)
DAY 1, 2 AND 3
The first three nights of your tour will be spent in Bath. Roman
and Georgian splendour combine to give this city its grandiose charm.
The hot spring baths are one of Britain's chief memorials to Roman
Britain and the Royal Crescent is a monument to the refined 18th
century architecture of John Wood. A Florentine air is created by
Pulteney Bridge over the River Avon, and four centuries of work
went into the building of Bath Abbey. As well as such architectural
gems there are a host of museums, the beautiful Sydney Gardens to
walk in, and many refined shops, eating places and watering holes
tucked away in this city of golden stone.
Overnight : Bath area (3 nights)
DAY 4 AND 5
Drive into Wales and onto its second largest city, Swansea. Here
you will spend two nights and there is plenty to do and see. The
Maritime and Industrial Museum which includes lightships, veteran
vehicles and locomotives, local archaeology and natural history
is housed in the university museum. The castle which was built in
about 1330 by Bishop Henry de Gower has been mostly destroyed and
only the ruins of the tower remain but is well worth a visit.
A trip
to the Gower peninsula with its rocky limestone cliffs, remote bays
and mile upon mile of golden sands make up this secluded area of
Wales. There are many places of interest to visit including the
Gower Farm Museum, Gower Coast Nature Reserve and the Small World
Pony Centre.
Overnight : Swansea area (2 nights)
DAY 6 AND 7
Drive from Wales into the Midlands and onto the city of a thousand
trades, Birmingham. There is plenty to see and do in Birmingham
with its many shopping arcades, some dating from the Victorian period.
There are many museums including the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery
which houses paintings, sculptures and applied art. The Museum of
Science and Industry has a 125 ton steam locomotive which played
a great part in Birmingham's industrial past.
